The Community Trustee Program

The Cape Coral Council for Progress proudly presents a three-part workshop on becoming a community trustee. This program will provide participants with the opportunity to: know themselves, care about the quality of life in the community, be stewards of the community and its resources, serve the common good, listen to the diverse voices of the community advocating their often contradictory positions, appreciate pluralism, empower others to grow, nurture a wide span of awareness and ability to “see things whole”, define and articulate the community’s concerns, dream and form effective responses to these issues and needs, use their skills and leadership ability to make a better future for the entire community, and to lead with passion and authority.

The program is made up of three half day sessions that will include a light breakfast and lunch.

Session One – The Past: finding meaning in the story of the journey. The program is set up to learn from our past. It is a process of diagnosis and celebration of our local history. The day starts off with a taking inventory of our community; it chronicles the collective memory of people, events and issues. We will celebrate our victory and learn from our defeats.

Session Two – The Present: seeing the community as it is today by identifying our uniqueness and diversity. We will focus on the big picture by linking the community’s people, issues, strengths and weaknesses with the underlying values and beliefs they represent.

Session Three – The Future: envisioning a preferred tomorrow and committing to achieving that vision. We will be creating a vision based on all the knowledge and insight acquired thus far. By articulating a compelling agenda, our vision provides a context for decision-making and priority setting. It will not eliminate dissent and conflict, but it can provide space for negotiation and collaboration among diverse populations. It will offer a way to anticipate future issues and plan for their management. It can provide the insight, inspiration and innovation needed to align major forces to bring about effective community change.

At the end of the three sessions participants will have developed a personal niche or mission, become a servant-leader, and make the final step towards growing into the role of “Community Trustee.”

A recommended fee of $250.00 per participant with a maximum of 15 in the program.
